Are you serious? Can Acrobat Reader convert a ps file to pdf? It is
a news to me.

   If you do not have acrobat reader you are to install it. Here you
   need not go to msdos to run pdflatex. pdflatex cannot convert the
   eps figure to latex. 

Sure, pdflatex cannot convert eps graphic to LaTeX and it is not
intended either. But it can translate to pdf if you meet the
following conditions:

1. you should use web2c TeX implementation (eg. TeXLive or teTeX)  
   and shell escape invoked. 

2. you should have Heiko Oberdiek's epstopdf.sty installed.

3. you should have ghostscript and Sebastian's script epstopdf
   installed.

If you satisfy all the above, you can include eps files in your
pdfLaTeX document and pdfLaTeX will automatically convert all your
eps graphic into pdf graphic by calling the epstopdf internally and
include in your document.
