What I do
(1) I prepare eps file of figure and put it in my latex file.
(2) Convert it into a ps file
(3) open now acrobat reader, covert this ps file to pdf file. The picture
is now as good as ps file picture.
(4) open adobe acrobat and take the print of pdf file.
you need not run pdflatex. I take print in this way in my epson stylus 
480 which is uanable to print ps file directly.
If you do not have acrobat reader you are to install it. Here you need not 
go to msdos to run pdflatex. pdflatex cannot convert the eps figure to latex.
Try this.
