[Tugindia] bib in reftex

Dear all,
	
	Can anybody here help me on how to set reftex (with Xemaxs+
AuCtex) so that when I use the cite option from a tex file it takes
citations from a .bib file I specify?

I tried putting the relevant path name in Reftex bibpath environment
variable, in reftex customisatin menu. Doesnt seem to be working. Also
tried changing the reftex default bibliography to my .bib file. When I use
C-c [ what I get is Regex.... instead of going to the entries in .bib file
