One of the changes to pre- and post-install scripts that Bruno noticed is that /bin/bash shouldn't be used (along with python, perl and ruby). I don't know if bash (lots of my shell scripts and TeXShop engines), perl (my goodness, that will do tremendous damage) and ruby will, eventually, disappear along with python but it's something to take into consideration.

It turns out that I'm not using any bash specific things in my engines so switching the shebang line to use /bin/sh works just fine. I tried zsh but there were problems and I'm going to stick with sh.
