Yikes.

    Maybe relying on `\verb`:

Yeah, that would work, but it creates other problems. Like sprinkling
\verb cmds everywhere in the doc instead of the current syntactic sugar.

But I'll do that, or hack in some sort of \@noligs call before the arg
