We just got a complaint about a broken tlmgr a few days ago:

The platform is going to be officially supported for 3 more years.

If this was something that would require extreme measures to get
fixed, it would be a different story, but it looks pretty
straightforward to fix.

I suspect that CentOS 6.9 (with end of life two months ago) would have
the exact same problem, for example.
Or Debian 7 (we use Debian 8 to build TL though).
