    If you resolve the problem, could you please report about the
    resolution

Once I included ffcall in the build process, and explicitly enabled
static and disabled shared for all the libraries, it worked without any
serious trouble.

I just checked in a new version of utils/README (et al.) with the
process that succeeded for me.

As for the MIPS opcode problem Mojca ran into at the end, I imagine that
would have to go back to the clisp maintainer, if pursuing is desired.
