    very little information about installing TL from source 

As you may have already seen, http://tug.org/texlive/build.html is my
best effort at describing the build itself, with various caveats.

There is no simple description of how to create a complete and runnable
installation from source, because it is not simple.  Everyone (every
distro) wants/needs to do it differently.
