Ok, finally we have a theoretically stable version of asymptote checked into the source tree (Build/source/utils/asymptote) and I attempted to write instructions at http://tug.org/texlive/build.html#asymptote. Give it a whirl if you're of a mind, send me any bugs/suggestions. Thanks, karl
