i don't see how moving FONTCONFIG_LIBS to the end of xetex_ldadd
could possibly do any negative side-effects.

i tried to read it, but i don't understand your conclusions on "will
probably fail" in some cases.

i guess i'll have to manually re-link xetex and xdvipdfmx... :(
