I'm glad you found Build --debug.

For the record, all that Build --debug does is set CFLAGS and CXXFLAGS
to -g (instead of -g -O2).  This can also be done by hand.  As I recall,
there are also a few (non-core) programs which do not follow the
standard conventions and so still get built with optimization.
