[texworks] spell check on tex works editor

Hi Stefan,

Thanks for emailing. I really appreciate it. This seems a bit bizarre. The page you suggested isn’t a huge amount of help. But I looked in my windows 11 directory C:\users\Robert\AppData\local\Programs\Miktex\hunspell\dicts and those .dic and .aff files are in there (for GB English, German, French) and presumably downloaded when I downloaded the miktex system. So I have no idea why they are there in that folder but the texworks editor isn’t picking them up. I notice that in the instructions it’s a completely different file path but there is no such file path on windows 11 and they say the directory with the dictionaries should be called dictionaries but it is called dicts …. Who knows?! I am utterly confused!!

Many thanks again.

Best wishes, Rob

Dear Robert,

you probably need to download/install some dictionaries. Hopefully https://github.com/TeXworks/texworks/wiki/SpellingDictionaries will help (although some paths may be different for your MiKTeX version).

HTH,
Stefan

Hi - does anyone know how to get an English spell-checker running in the tex works editor. I had an old version of tex works as part of an old miktex installation where it had spell-check (very useful!) but in the latest miktex I have downloaded the tex works editor does not have a spell checker. When you go to “spelling” in the Edit drop-down it says “none” with no option available to choose one. In “preferences” under “spell-check language” again it has “None” with no alternative option to choose.

Thanks very much in advance for any help!

Best wishes,
