This is a known issue with Qt 5.15 resulting from a bugfix for spurious 
crashes with long documents (see 
https://github.com/TeXworks/texworks/issues/963).
The current development build 
(https://nightly.link/TeXworks/texworks/workflows/cd/master/TeXworks-macOS) 
comes with two variants - one for macOS 10.12 and up and one for macOS 
10.15 and up. The latter one is compiled with Qt6, where the problem 
should be drastically improved.
