Yes, this is on the wishlist, but will still take some time to implement
(as it will require a lot or redesigning of the current code).

Despite the fact that it's called "TeX program", you can really put
anything in there that you have defined as a tool (in the preferences).
There's no reason why you couldn't define "perl" as a tool as well (and
then use it in the pragmat). Was this what you need?
