Should not the default command-completion be "no
completion at all" ?  Is it really safe to assume
that the majority of TeXwork users want command
completion enabled ?

FWIW, it is (IMHO) a great shame that the default
extension  for LaTeX is ".tex" : if the default
extension were specified in the format file, we
could have had ".ltx" for LaTeX, ".ctx" for ConTeXt,
and so on, whereas in the current scheme of things
".tex" is horribly overloaded.
