No, Mathematica doesn't seem to be the (real) culprit. I googled a bit
about this. It seems that all pdf renderers are required to be able to
render a few fonts on their own, and this list includes Times-Roman. Of
course, this doesn't help. As workarounds, you could use a specific,
other font, or you could try producing an (E)PS file and then convert it
to PDF by another program which is capable of embedding all fonts.

So the (real) culprit is the poppler library. Now it's not as easy as it
sounds, unfortunately. As posted before, this work correctly on, e.g.,
Linux. So the problem seems to be a Windows-specific one. In particular,
I believe that this may be related to the patched version of poppler
that is used.

Are you using the official version or did you build Tw yourself? In the
first case, it might be worth a try to either build Tw yourself or have
someone on this list who builds Tw regularly send you a copy (I'm not
sure if KDE on Windows distributes a patched version of poppler, but if
it doesn't that could help).

Strange, I use Mathematica 7.0.0 on Linux and don't see any (obvious)
problem. This shouldn't happen in an application like this...
