[texshop] TeXShop Bug

Folks,

A few days ago, Bruno Voisin reported an important TeXShop bug when running on a beta copy of Ventura 13.1, not yet released.

The bug was scary. If you open a new source window, type some text, and then hit the close button, nothing happens. The window then becomes a zombie. If you quit TeXShop and then restart, the window comes back. There is no way to get rid of it.

Moreover, as it turns out, it is impossible to Save any new file if the saving requires that the Save Dialog appear. (Just a silent "Save" works.)

This very significant bug has a very simple cause. When the Save Dialog appears, TeXShop adds an "Encoding" menu to the dialog. The code to do that had one line that didn't do anything. On older systems, it was benign. On the new Ventura, it caused the entire Save Dialog to remain hidden.

TeXShop also adds an encoding menu to the Open Dialog, but the bad line wasn't used in that code.

This bug has been fixed and the new version is being tested. TeXShop 5.04 will be released in a few days (and certainly before Apple releases Ventura 13.1). When the release occurs, be sure to update TeXShop.
