FTP access to ctan.org down

Hi Adam,

    FTP would still be nice to have.

FTP has been disabled on the core ctan.org host for quite a while.
I can't remember exactly, but a couple of years maybe?
It got announced at some point on the ctan-ann list.

One option: at https://ctan.org/mirrors/mirmon, a few mirrors that still
support ftp are listed.

Another option: use rsync. E.g., you can get a directory listing with:
  rsync rsync://ctan.org/CTAN/systems/knuth/dist/

    listing a directory over http(s) is impossible.

Well, in principle it depends on how the web server, and the directory
on the web server, is set up. It's true that ctan.org does not return
bare directory listings, only annotated listings, as at the url Phil cited,
  https://ctan.org/tex-archive/systems/knuth/dist
