my Docker images generally have a few hundred MiBs, let's be generous and say 1 GiB. 

my local texlive folder, installed with most of the 3400 packages, is about 4.8 GiB.

adding the 'full' texlive to the Docker images results in almost 5 times larger images, which must be uploaded on the Docker Hub, and downloaded by all those who need them. and these images come in pairs, one for 32-bits, and one for 64-bits builds.

by all realative and subjective measures, a five-fold increase is still... large :-(
