[texhax] invalid character in tengtex

Without access to the original (possibly shortened) doc, it might not be easy to help

But some thing for LaTeX that was made in 1994 might have made some assumptions that are not true any more.

P.S. I've never tried TengTeX so without an mwe I cannot test/help.

I'm getting the following error:

In ! tengtex.sty  (TengTeX for LaTeX) 22 September 1994 Version 1.00

Using a hex editor I see:

I don't see any invalid characters. Did I miss it? Any idea how to fix this?
