I've just installed a fresh debian stable and added texlive by using the texlive installer from CTAN.

When I try to complie a latex source file I get:

kpathsea: Running mktexmf ecrm1000
! I can't find file `ecrm1000'.
<*> ...ljfour; mag:=1; nonstopmode; input ecrm1000

Please type another input file name
! Emergency stop.
<*> ...ljfour; mag:=1; nonstopmode; input ecrm1000

There are some posts online about ubuntu users who solved this by installing the latex pacakges
     texlive-latex-recommended, texlive-latex-extra, texlive-fonts-recommended )

but I don't want to have two duplicate latex installations on my machine.

Any suggestions?
