1. How is the above improved by the italic correction?

2. An italic correction is applied to the italic or slanted letter 
that precedes a a character (unless a full stop or a comma) in a 
roman type; according to the TeXbook, a bold f in quotes also 
requires its italic correction invoked.  can the list think of other 
cases where an italic correction would be desirable/necessary?
