[texhax] Problem with \hyperref taking too long

Tug

I have a problem using MiKteX 2.9 where the dvi output "slips down" the page
(on screen).

Using \hyperref as the last \usepackage entry cures this, but the
compilation takes a huge amount of time.

Does anyone know of a lesser package to use that keeps the text in the
correct place?
