is there something like the equivalent of \textheight for the surrounding minipage, assuming that the height of the surrounding minipage is set explicitly?
\begin{minipage}[t][5cm][s]{3cm}
% How do I find out here that this minipage is 5cm tall?
\end{minipage}
Measuring the box is not an option for me.
