Great! With LaTeX (instead of Eplain), you have \newcommand
to check "newness."  (I do not know if Eplain has such a thing,
it doesn't have \newcommand...)

My first \newenvironment was \newenvironment{def},
in order to get a "Definition" environment. This way I learnt of \def...
