Here it is in its entirety; it's about as trivial as it could be:

\def\subchapter#1%
{{\noindent\subchapnamefont  #1}
%{{\noindent\subchapnamefont\raggedright\hyphenchar\subchapnamefont=-1  #1}
%{{\noindent\subchapnamefont\hyphenchar\subchapnamefont=-1\rightskip=0pt
plus1fil {#1}}
\bigskip
}

I've left in as comments a couple of my misguided attempts to get it to do
what I want. (The second of which is all on one line, although I suspect
that e-mail is going to wrap that line.)

The uncommented version is the original one, which caused a hyphenated word
to appear at the end of a line, which in turn led me to thinking that I
wanted to change to a ragged format.
