[texhax] Revtex incompatibility

I have written before about the incompatibility of revtex with diagxy, my 
diagram macros.  Actually, revtex will be incompatible with any package 
that uses dimensions based on em or ex.  However, I have discovered that 
placing \normalfont before the package will cure the problem, e.g.:

\documentclass[aps]{revtex4}
\normalsize
\input diagxy
.................

When I wrote to the revtex maintainers, I got an unhelpful reply, so I 
thought it worth posting what I discovered.
