If I understood you right, you do not know how to install the packages for
Ubuntu right ?
Usually, there should be some finish packages available in Ubuntu.
Please use the System tools of Ubuntu to install them. I have no expierence
with the GUI but under the console just fire up

sudo aptitude
Enter your Passwort
type "/" to search for a new ubuntu-package
and then do some magic...
type in the search field
this means search within the description (~d) for the word prosper. The reason
for doing so is the fact that many small LaTeX-packages are included in one
single ubuntu package. You will likely not find a Ubuntu package with the same
name as the LaTeX package you are looking for. Now you should find the first
package which contains the word. Check if this is the package you want if yes
hit "+" to install it if not please hit "n" to jump to the next entry.
Repeat this for all other packages your are interested and then hit
"g" to see a list of all packages which will be installed and ones more "g" to
agree and to start download and installation. After the installation process
finish press "q" to exit aptitude (also this can be pressed always to jump back
to the previous screen e.g. back from search to main screen, etc. ).

Thats it, the installation copied the files to the right folders and updated
your TEXMF-path so that LaTeX and friends will find there new buddies.

If you like to install manual packages because there are not available in
Ubuntu or there might be outdated, you can do that as well. However, this
requires some play on the console. Basically you have to install the files into
a folder and update TEXMF-path so that LaTeX and friends know where to find
the new files. Please ask again if you like to do that and I will try to help.
