I think you're right. I'd stumbled across this rule of thumb when realising
that a left justified title looked much better than a centered one on the
book's blog, in fact. 

I certainly agree that the problems with the cover are not just down to the
font, either, but are down to the overall design. I'll have another stab at
it and even try right justified title text...
