[texhax] [IC/Admin] Putting image *data* inside a TeX/LaTeX file?

As another random idea, perhaps there's a way to embed a metapost image
within a latex file. I don't use metapost, but I know that it is used
mainly to generate separate .mbs files that get included with
includegraphics, but perhaps there is a trick to use them in the same
way inside a special. The potential advantage is that .mbs files are
"purified" eps that can be understood by pdflatex as well as dvips. [I
don't know if it is possible to use \special at all in pdflatex,
though.]

I mention this because the flowchart software Dia, freely available,
multi-platform ..., will import a bitmap image and export it as an mbs.
The one example I tried it looks like it simply has a draw command for
each pixel in the bitmap.

This will require a metapost guru and pdflatex guru, but I thought it
sufficiently off-the-wall that it might point to something useable.
