It is indeed useful.  The problem is that merely preventing hyphenation
does not fix the document, because then you get huge gaps between words
or words sticking into the margin.  It is better to relieve TeX's need
to hyphenate than to remove its ability.  Forcing flush margins onto 
large title text is silly and wrong.
