2. I am using lastpage.sty also, but I want to suppress the red box that 
appears around the LastPage (or at least just change it a white box).

OK. I have solved this one for myself.  Just had to try more options,  I 
assumed that urlbordercolor would do the job for all my links, but in fact 
there exists
linkbordercolor and pagebordercolor options.
