i know of only one way of converting wmf to an acceptable format, and
i'm not willing to spend money to buy wmf2eps to create an answer
about it.

anyone wants to offer something along those lines (i've got various
other odds and ends about dealing with m$ things) i'ld be very pleased
to put something together.

for some reason, people expect me to be omniscient: they complain
about lacks in my faq, but despite my regular requests, no more than
the "regular few" actually provide me with material.

so that deals with http://www.tex.ac.uk/faq

was very directly aimed at exchanging documents between consenting
texies, and making sure that everyone involved can deal with the
pictures. fwiw, i'm not sure it was a relevant pointer for this
