    Please can you send me a CD containing the WinEdt editor software for Latex and 

winedt is not free (libre) software, so it cannot be included on TeX Live.

You can download it from CTAN at
http://www.ctan.org/tex-archive/nonfree/systems/win32/winedt

Most user groups will send you the CTAN archives on cd if you really
need that.

By the way, TeX Live 5a is pretty old.  The last release was TL 7 in 2002.
TeX Live 2003 is in process.
