sc> context-companion-fonts breaks xetex ability to resolve fonts
https://github.com/latex3/fontspec/issues/533
Thanks for the reports, Sergio and Herbert.
What puzzles me is why this is coming up for multiple people right
now. XeTeX hasn't changed. Context-companion-fonts hasn't changed (since
the 2024 release six months ago). TeXGyre hasn't changed. So what caused
this to be an issue all of a sudden? No one has tried to use Termes Math
with XeTeX in TL 2024 before this? Seems unlikely. But maybe not with
that particular name.
but the preferred-family field is not intended as an alias, the fact that
xetex is treating it as such appears to be a xetex issue.
If someone wants to make a patch for xetex, we could consider it.
A bug report could also be submitted to
https://sourceforge.net/p/xetex/bugs/
so it isn't forgotten (maybe it's already there, I didn't check).
Unfortunately to the best of my knowledge no one, including Jonathan
(Kew), is actively maintaining XeTeX.
May I suggest this font package is at
least moved in the `context` collection?
Given the bug in xetex, I guess that is reasonable.
dc> lualatex could also use the improved coverage provided by these
fonts.
I can move it back if that ever happens. Meanwhile, since lots of
people install everything, the companion fonts will still be widely
available, for better or worse, so any work on lualatex will not be
wasted/in a vacuum. --thanks, karl.
