Could it be due to $TEXMFSYSVAR (should not be user writable) in
TEXMFCACHE plus the new luatex write file paranoia?
Indeed. I'm not sure what changes were needed to luaotfload for the new
luatex, but Marcel said there were some. I asked him to make a release
