    after todays update of my TeXLive-System I must report, that the 
    system-wide formatfile for pdflatex does still not work on windows

I committed Marcel's fix in the source code. We did not (as usual)
rebuild all the binaries, which would be quite some work. Since you know
how to work around the problem, and you may be the only one trying to
share .fmt files between 4/8-byte architectures, it didn't seem
