I have installed texlive 2020 with install-tl and
TEXHOME=~/texlive/2020

printenv | fgrep TEX
TEXMFHOME=/home/mathar/texlive/2020

and I am running pdflatex on the following file:

\documentclass{book}
\begin{document}
\part{kap 1 }
\part{kap 2 }
\part{kap 3 }
\part{kap 4 }
\part{kap 5 }
\part{kap 6 }
\end{document}

which gives
This is pdfTeX, Version 3.14159265-2.6-1.40.21 (TeX Live 2020) (preloaded format=pdflatex)
 restricted \write18 enabled.
entering extended mode

What is expected to be done on the line with the *-prompt (which I've
been forced to leave with CTRL-C here becaus it's hanging indefinitely)?
