It turns out to be a bug in Ghostscript:

That's why it is not failing on FreeBSD because the GS port has not been
yet updated, it is still at 9.24. On Windows I have swapped the exes and
gs_init.ps, but that is really an ugly hack.
Can we initiate a downgrade of bundled GS for Windows meanwhile?
