You could start with trying to find out which of the private poppler
header details are being used, that would help others, and would it make
easier to search for replacements.
(Of course I can do this by myself, as most here, but all of us have
many responsabilities in TL ;-)

Well, you probably follow each and every new poppler release. This is
one of the reasons why I sometimes disable external poppler and use the
TeX Live internal one for building TL in Debian (although I always get
complaints that I should use ... I know ... yes yes). So yes, I know
your pain.
But then, the svn repo (also accessible via git) contains already fixes
for the sources to make them buildable with the most recent poppler.
