It appears it's not only in tldie. This code from tlmgrgui.pl
(mentioned by you earlier in this thread) also causes core dumping:

  # also delete the main window before we kill the process to 
  # make sure that Tk is happy (segfault on cmd line, email Taco)
  $mw->destroy;
  finish(0);

Changing 'finish(0);' to 'Tk::exit(0);' resolves the problem.
