This does not sound right to me.  A particular version of Perl::Tk on a
particular system breaks exit, one of the most fundamental functions
there is.  I think it is worse to obfuscate the code than to require
people to use a different version (or a patch?)  than the broken one.
We use exit everywhere.  This problem has never come up before.  I'd
really much rather not "fix" it, since avoiding exit does not sound
maintainable to me ... -k
