[tex-live] Bug in pdflatex: doesn't compile file with 2 adjacent spaces in the name

1. Create a file: "a  a.tex" with sample data.

2. Run: $pdflatex a\ \ a.tex

3. Get an error:

This is pdfTeX, Version 3.14159265-2.6-1.40.16 (MiKTeX 2.9)
entering extended mode
! I can't find file `"./a a.tex"'.


for some reason pdflatex has converted 2 spaces into 1 in the file name.
