    fixes might make it into the branch2012 (that's for Karl to decide).

As I've explained before, the purpose of the usual branch2012 is (will
be) to record changes to the sources reflected in new released binaries,
i.e., if we are actually going to ask the builders to recompile during
the year.  I don't see any compelling reason to do that for these fixes.
Therefore, no commit to the branch.

Of course, we could have another branch.  That leads to the other
"nature of development and vc choice" issues.  Have to discuss all that
another time.
