Maybe it would help understanding the segfault if Peter compiles a binary with
debug symbols in his usual build environment, and we use it in our runtime
environment to produce a backtrace...

(Fwiw, I've tried the 32-bit binary, and it works ootb (Debian testing) without
segfaulting.)
