How on earth did the program continue here???

The code says:
	if (!install_packages(...)) {
	  ...
	  do the warning about INstallation failed and rerunning
	  flushlog();   which does nothing but echoing out the log file
	  exit(1)
        }
so you should never arrive at the post actions?!

Very strange.
