Hum, which version of texdoc? I think I removed this warning a while
ago, it was really too annoying.

You're right that the precedence order of the various variable, namely

{"PDFVIEWER_texdoc", "TEXDOCVIEW_pdf", "TEXDOC_VIEWER_PDF", "PDFVIEWER"}

(first wins) is probably not very intuitive. IIRC, the rational was that
things like TEXDOCVIEW_pdf sounds more specific than PDFIEWER, so they
should take precedence. It is more visible for viewer_txt:

"PAGER_texdoc", "TEXDOCVIEW_txt", "TEXDOC_VIEWER_TXT", "PAGER"

where "PAGER" is very generic.

Anyway, the old names are not supposed to be used too often in
conjunction with the new ones, and moreover the prefered configuration
method is now the configuration file.
