Actually yes. I am in the Dept of Math, where everyone uses (la)trex
including those who are innocent as babies with computers (some manage
to switch them on only after 5-10 attempts). Now I persuaded to
install TL2008 (actually MacxTeX2008 in the majority of cases) or
installed by myself to computers of my esteemed colleagues. Then I
need to explain in very few words how to keep things current.

If   (sudo) tlmgr update --all  did all the job it would be very nice.
Anyway, since there are much more updates than installations everyone
who learned this line should be considered as a specialist while those
who learned
%tlmgr install thispackage
are true experts.

However how to learn what we are missing. I amsure that suggesting to
my esteemed colleagues to run

tlmgr list | egrep -v "^i|binary|00|win32|wintools|darwin|scheme-"

would be considered as insanely complicated
