[tex-live] tlmgr and FreeBSD7

The system:
# uname -psr
FreeBSD 7.1-PRERELEASE i386

tlmgr does not work correctly on FreeBSD. First of all, tlmgr uses tar
with option --owner, which is not valid for bsd tar (the system's tar
on freebsd). This can be bypassed by using the gnu tar from ports and
changing the tlmgr script. The ports system install gnu tar with the
name 'gtar' .

But even after that change, when using tlmgr to update a package the
following message appears:
# tlmgr update beamer
tlmgr: installation location
ftp://ctan.org/tex-archive/systems/texlive/tlnet/2008
TLPOBJ currently supports only plain or lzma containers at
/usr/local/texlive/2008/tlpkg/TeXLive/TLPOBJ.pm line 516.
update: beamer (7340 -> 11236) ...

the message at the 'TLPOBJ' line above is not very clear for me. I saw
at the /temp directory that the
texlive.tlpdb.<process number>.lzma file downloaded and decompressed
successfully just before the message above, and finally beamer was not
updated. The same happens with any package.

Since I do not speak perl, could you please give me some advice?
