In my configuration, fmtutil properly finds pdftex-pl.pool and later fails because this localized pool file is outdated. My error message (which you should get, too) is: ! pdftex.pool doesn't match; tangle me again (or fix the path). Of course, I'll update the localized pool files asap. Thomas
